Legend has it that a Spanish Galleon went aground just off the shores

of Assateague Island, now a National Park and Wildlife Refuge.

Locals believe that the cargo of small ponies the ship carried were the beginning

of the world famous Chincoteague Pony herd. The owners of “Surf Pony”

have carried this theme through out their special island getaway.
